Edakkal Cave is considered as the queen of Wayanad.

Edakkaval is considered one of the historical places in Wayanad. The Cave is about 10 kilometers away from Bathery and situated between Ambalavayal and Ambukuthy. The name 'Edakkal' literally means 'a stone in between'. The Edakkal caves are famous for their pictorial paintings which are considered to be from 6000 BC. Edakkal is India's only site where Stone Age carvings have been found. People can see here carvings belonging to the Neolithic and Mesolithic ages. Edakkal caves have some connection with Indus Valley Civilization too, recently they discovered around 400 signs which had shown their relationship with the ancient civilization. The prominent among them was 'a man with a jar cup'.

The Visiting time at Edakkal caves is from morning 9:30 to evening 4:30.
