Java's notorious NullPointerExceptions (NPEs) can be mitigated using several strategies. For Spring Boot apps, leveraging its features is crucial.

1. Optional: java.util.Optional elegantly handles potential nulls.

2. Null-safe Operators (Java 11+): The ? operator simplifies null checks.

String name = user.getName(); //Potentially NPE
