Printing a Java Array: Easiest Way

Java arrays and `toString()`? You're getting `[I@hexcode` instead of `[1,2,3]?` Learn the elegant solution – it's simpler than you think!

How can I easily print a Java array's contents (e.g., `[1, 2, 3]`) instead of its default string representation (e.g., `[I@3343c8b3`)?

Solution in a Nutshell

Simplest Way to Print a Java Array

Java offers several ways to print arrays. For simple cases, Arrays.toString() is the most concise and readable:

import java.util.Arrays;

public class PrintArray {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
        int[] arr = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5};
        System.out.println(Arrays.toString(arr)); // Output: [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
    }
}

This works for primitive arrays (int, float, etc.) and arrays of objects. For enhanced control (e.g., custom formatting), use a loop:

for (int i = 0; i < arr.length; i++) {
    System.out.print(arr[i] + " ");
}
System.out.println(); // Add newline after printing

Spring Boot Context: Within a Spring Boot application, these methods remain the same. No special Spring Boot features are needed for basic array printing. The above examples work directly. Consider using logging frameworks (like Logback/Log4j) for production applications to manage output effectively. For instance:

import org.slf4j.Logger;
import org.slf4j.LoggerFactory;

// ... inside your Spring Boot service or controller ...
private static final Logger log = LoggerFactory.getLogger(MyService.class);
// ...

int[] arr = {1,2,3};
log.info("Array: {}", Arrays.toString(arr));

Remember to add slf4j-api and a logging implementation (like logback-classic) as dependencies in your pom.xml if using this approach. Choose the method best suited to your needs – Arrays.toString() for simplicity, loops for customization, and logging for production environments.
