1. Regulatory Signs

Regulatory signs are used to control the actions of road users. This used to control the drivers and other users actions in the road in UAE. This is applicable by law and it clearly states what action you can perform and what prohibited. Suppose if you want to know how much speed you can follow in some roads, the speed limit sign will inform you that. If you are driving above that limit there will be cameras and speed related RTA fine may waiting for you. There are various types of regulatory signs:

Control Sign

They are used to show the right of way, priority or direction of travel. Some examples of control signs are:

Give way to cyclists

Proceed left

Mandatory Sign

Mandatory signs indicate to road users the actions that they need to take. Some examples of mandatory signs are: ahead only, turn right only, pass either side, 60kmph minimum speed freeway, keep right, roundabout, travel in direction of arrow, keep left.

Prohibitory Sign

They indicate prohibited actions or objects, so as to indicate road users about actions they should not take or which are prohibited. Some examples of prohibitory signs are: no left turn, no right turn, do not overtake, do not exceed 80kmph speed limit, do not horn, no hazardous materials, no goods vehicles, no pedestrians, no cyclists, maximum heights limits, qualification plate, no U turn.

These signs are used to control and regulate stopping and parking. This also called as 'no stopping' sign. Some examples of parking control signs are not park or stop in the provided time restriction Few are related to Handicapped Parking The blue sign below shows an area reserved for parking by handicapped people. The parking bay will also be marked with appropriate markings. The people who got the permit can park here and should display the card when required.

2. Guide Signs

Guide signs provide direction. That include information about route numbers street numbers etc. These signs

Help drivers with information
Provide relevant information on the road
Helps to find the destination
Give advance notice to drivers to make the directional changes easy

Guide Signs in different backround colors 1. For National route it is in Blue color 2. for local routes it will in Green color with the city route emblem. 3. In order to show local points roads or destinations it will bein White color 4. Brown will be used to provide additional information including symbols to describe the destination

Trailblazing Guide Signs

Trailblazing signs have distinctive and recognizable symbols on them and are placed along a route to guide and reassure drivers that they are on the correct road to reach their required destination. This is known as ‘trailblazing’. A picture of an aeroplane is an example of a trailblazing symbol. Trailblazing signs are only used in certain destinations.
